ProHelp® EPM - I am getting a Security Warning message when launching my Mattec Client after installing Internet Explorer 7

The information in this FAQ applies to the following:

  • ProHelp® EPM, All releases after Installing Internet Explorer 7

With the new release of Internet Explorer 7, you may begin to see an error message when trying to launch your Mattec client. This error message is due to a new security measure that Microsoft has rolled into the Internet Explorer update. This security measure basically restricts you from opening any file from a networked location (be that your local intranet or external internet connection). There is a quick fix that can be performed on each client workstation to remove this warning message. Below, you will find a document that will walk you through the necessary steps to correct this. There are 2 possible ways to work around this, please choose the method that works best for your company.

    Symptom

When you run a script, batch file or an executable directly from a network share, the Open file - Security warning dialog may appear as shown in the figure.

To prevent this prompt from appearing, use one of the methods listed in this article.

    Resolution

    Method 1

Enable the Include all network paths (UNCs) setting in Internet Options applet.

    • Click Start, Run and type INETCPL.CPL
    • Select the Security tab, Local intranet
    • Click Sites button
    • Put a checkmark near the following option:

    Include all network paths (UNCs)

Here is a description of the above setting:

Network paths (for example, \\local\file.txt) are typically used for local network content that should be included in the Local Intranet zone. If there are network paths that should not be in the Local Intranet zone, you should clear this option and use other options to designate files that are assigned to the Local Intranet zone.

Note: If you've installed Internet Explorer 7, you may need to first uncheck the option Automatically detect intranet network option in Local intranet zone settings.

    Method 2

Add the IP or the FQDN of the network computer to your Local Intranet or Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer.

    • Click Start, Run and type INETCPL.CPL
    • Select the Security tab, Trusted sites
    • Click Sites button
    • Add the IP address / FQDN of the remote computer to the list
(You can also add the network shares to the Local Intranet zone.)
    • Uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone and click Close
    • Click OK, OK and close the dialog
